WIXQ 91.7FM The Ville, serving all those Millersville listeners with
the greatest and the latest tunes for decades, is the MU radio station
known campus-wide.
Providing anyone with music within a 20-mile radius of
Millersville University, WIXQ is known for its continuous new,
cutting-edge music. However, the Lancaster FM band is not the only source
of music from WIXQ The Ville.
As of September of 1999, WIXQ is broadcast
live over the Internet, according to WIXQ Station Manager, Erik
Gudmundson, on a 24 hour, seven day a week basis.
Located on the world
wide web at http://www.wixq.com, this "streaming RealAudio
simulcast," said Gudmundson, "allows anyone in the universe to
listen to WIXQ's broadcast."
The Ville's radio station [RA stream,
not the radio broadcast] brings approximately 110 listeners in a day with
its metal, urban and independent rock style of music. WIXQ's web page
typically brings in about 60 new visitors a day, according to Gudmundson.
Gudmundson points out that these visitors are from "any country, you
name it."
WIXQ's web site dates back to about 1996, when it first
began with pre-web posting.
"We gradually expanded, and improved
that into its later incarnation today," said Gudmundson.
With the
new RealAudio Simulcast, WIXQ invites even more listeners. To promote
this new way of broadcasting college variety music, the station is always
involved with the public. It sponsors concerts and venues, which can be
checked out on WIXQ.com, linked to the MU web site. T-shirts and bumper
stickers are also available at the station.
