Dr. James H. McCormick, Chancellor of the State System of Higher Education (SSHE), gave
MU students the chance to question him about the concerns and needs of Millersville
University during his interview on WIXQ's Roundtable discussion program.
The participants also included Dr. Joseph A. Caputo, president of MU; Vincent P.
Carocci, director of governmental relations for the SSHE; Pete Anders, vice president of
the student senate; Tom Knapp, news editor of The Snapper; Randy Leaman, associate editor
of The Snapper; Tom Casetta, WIXQ's station manager; and Bill Myers, educational program
director for WIXQ.
Many topics of concern were discussed, including the question of rising tuition costs.
McCormick was optimistic that fees would not go up if his recent budget proposal was
approved.
"The budget that we have presented the General Assembly and to the Governor
requests a 9.9 percent increase in general appropriations," he said. "That
would increase the budget to a total of $290 million. That budget was presented to
the General Assembly with the expectation that if it were approved, there would not be a
tuition increase."
He added that this did not include room and board costs.
[McCormick discusses more financially-related issues.]
