WIXQ License Renewed

[Kelli Stephens (The Snapper) - 08/??/1984]

WIXQ, 91.7FM rocks Millersville until 1991.

As of July 1984 WIXQ received its license renewal for the next seven years.

According to Dr. Ralph Anttonen, faculty advisor and DJ Doc Roc, the effort to renew the license began in September of 1983.

The procedure for this began with the station filling out forms and doing a community assessment.

For the assessment the station surveyed 15 community leaders and 65 of the general public. The questions asked were about the problems, needs, and interests of the community.

After they gathered the information the station concluded that seven of the major needs, problems, and interests of the community were: streets, highways, and traffic; litter, pollution, and crime; housing; apathy; alcohol and drug abuse; employment; and cultural awareness.

This information was gathered during the 1983-84 school year and along with a list of programs to meet these needs, this information was filed with the FCC on March 1, 1984.

It is a major license renewal for the station. Before, when WIXQ was increasing its wattage, the station had to renew its license with each increase of wattage. According to Anttonen, the station will not have to renew its license when they switch to stereo.

Along with the license renewal, the station has also picked up two new DJ's. Arthur Jordan on 7 to 10 Sunday night and Tracey Keyes from 10 to 12 on Sunday night.

So Millersville WIXQ is ready to rock you for the next seven years.
