Stollenwerk Says WMSR Move Is Just A Matter Of Time

WMSR, radio 600, is still broadcasting out of the infirmary basement.
According to Donald Stollenwerk, director of development, the main reason for
the delay was a "mutual misunderstanding" of responsibilities between
the radio station and the college. When WMSR was under its own
supervision, it did not fully understand the extent of its
jurisdiction. Since the college has taken control of the situation, it
has been involved with many different projects leaving little time for the
wishes of WMSR. The radio station was still broadcasting and did not
need immediate attention.
Stollenwerk and Donald Hudak, head engineer at WMSR, agreed all plans have
been approved and progress should soon be made. Hudak expressed hope
that work on the SMC facilities should be started before the end of this
semester and be completed by September. Problems have existed between
WMSR and the college, WMSR was dissatisfied by the amount of time the college
required to move its facilities into SMC. It was mutually understood
that since the radio station was broadcasting, this was not a problem of
immediate concern.
What still has to be done? The area in the SMC available for the radio
station consists of two rooms, however, WMSR needs eight. Plans were
approved that would provide for the installation of partitions, doors, ceiling, soundproofing, and
air conditioning. Bids have yet to be made
as to who will do this. The funding of the move is still under
consideration. They must decide whether or not this will be covered by
the college or Student Services.
Stollenwerk said plans for organization will begin by the middle of this
month and it should just be a matter of time before the move is complete.
